According to reports by Xinhua News Agency and China News Service on July 11, the Global Electricity Development Index (2026) research report was officially released on July 10 local time at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. Compiled by the Global Energy Interconnection Development and Cooperation Organization (GEIDCO), the report comprehensively assesses the electricity development levels of 100 countries across four dimensions—supply security, consumption services, green and low‑carbon transition, and technological innovation. The assessed economies together account for 97% of global electricity demand.

The report shows that Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, China, and Norway rank in the top five globally for overall electricity development. Notably, China tops the world in technological innovation with a score of 98.1, leads globally in total installed capacity of clean energy, and sets the global benchmark in the application of digital and intelligent power technologies. At the same time, the report highlights that approximately 655 million people worldwide still lack access to electricity, and about 2 billion people are without clean cooking fuels—underscoring the urgent need for energy transition.
